During Fête de la Musique the Musée d'Orsay opens its sculpture-filled ground floor to the public for free concerts by internationally renowned musicians. It’s easily one of the city’s most beautiful settings for a show, and the acoustics (despite the high ceilings and marble surfaces) are surprisingly good. In 2012 the programme is dedicated to Finnish choral music, with works by Jean Sibelius, Toivo Kuula, Leevi Madetoja, performed by the University of Helsinki’s YL men’s choir, and directed by Tommi Niskala. Concerts start at 8.30pm, but be there a good hour beforehand (more if it’s raining) and be prepared to queue.
