No better way to celebrate the onset of Autumn (or mourn the passing of Summer) than by indulging in the seasonal metaphors of Vivaldi’s perennial chamber favourite: soaring strings denoting the freshness of Spring, cold minor keys heralding the onset of Winter, and so on. To warm you up afterwards, up-and-coming soprano Aurélie Loilier will be giving a rendition of Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’ – for which L’église de la Madeleine should provide a suitably atmospheric setting. And if the old chestnuts don’t do it for you, the programme is filled out by lesser-known pieces from various Baroque composers (Albinoni, Handel, Lully).
