After wowing the crowds at Versailles and Biarritz, choreographer Thierry Malandain's idiosyncratic staging of Cinderella comes to the capital, complete with dreamlike dancing and sparkling Prokofiev score. The twenty-strong ensemble, comprised entirely of alums of the renowned Malandain Ballet Biarritz, gives a subtle rendering of the fairy tale favourite, navigating the dramatic tonal changes – from Cinderella's miserable day-to-day existence to euphoric party scenes – with nuance and considerable inventiveness. They're complemented by a restrained set, an exercise in grey shading that never distracts from the performances. Wonderful.
