A seriously classy outfit that stands out in its neighbourhood, offering exceptional wines and deli snacks.

With its midnight blue façade, smiling service, elegant windows, hams and sausages suspended from the ceiling and well-ordered shelves of bottles, wine bar and deli La Cave de Belleville is a seriously classy outfit – despite its location between a kebab shop and a grocery store in the middle of the 19th arrondissement.

You might settle to a platter of cheese and charcuterie (€19), loaded with Roquefort, Morbier and Tomme de Brebis, plus saucisson, home made pâté and salted ham to go with a fresh baguette and figgy bread. And because it’s a wine store, a chat with the staff lets you match various glasses of red and white with your choice. If you’re feeling more adventurous, there are things like seafood tapas with razor clams, scallops or octopus (€10.50). It’s not a cut-price dégustation, but the experience is well worth it.

Excellent wine bar with a HUGE selection of wines from around the world! We came here on a Friday night (make sure to reserve) and sat at one of the large wood tables at the back with dangling light bulbs shining above us. It's a rather sophisticated vibe but the guys here were not at all snooty and were more than happy to help us choose the best bottle of wine based on our desires. We shared two large cheese and charcuterie plates (amazingly good, top-quality products that they equally sell at the front of the store) and about five bottles of wine (FYI we were 8) from their featured wine menu. If you want, you can also pick a bottle from the shelf directly but they charge a corkage fee. Had a great time and found it to be very reasonably priced, considering all that we ate and drank! Will definitely be back!
