La Droguerie Moderne (CLOSED)
Time Out says
Friendly warning! We're working hard to be accurate. But these are unusual times, so please check that venues remain open.
A little dive that could have chosen a more original name (there’s already the Mercerie, the ‘haberdashery store’, nearby), but which stands out for its unique, slightly demented decoration, created by graffiti and street artist Spot. Above the bar, lamplight filters through the perforated drum of a washing machine, and the seats are made of street signs, industrial barrels and golf caddies. A shower tray makes a low table, a bathtub the sofa, all second hand finds.
The young, easy-going owners are all skater-style guys whose first clients were friends, and they keep the drinks prices low – we particularly recommend a vodka shot with ginger biscuit, and the Duff beer (hello, Simpsons fans). During happy hour, pints drop from €5 to €3, and the planter’s punch, mojitos and caipirinhas are €5. The music is all soul, funk and hip-hop, and in summer the improveised furniture finds its way onto the pavement of Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud.
