Perched at the top of rue de Bagnolet, Z’indems Café is a little gem, a neighbourhood bar that is boho chic and the real deal. With plenty of activities, it’s worth the trip, despite its distance from the city centre. The Art Deco interior has been preserved, and though the place shows its age, it hasn’t faded, but has improved with age like fine wine. Young and old hold up the bar along with the regulars, or settle in to a table for a chat over a drink.
At the weekend there are soul, funk, jazz, reggae, chanson and folk concerts, and documentaries are screened from time to time. In 2012, the team from Café des Artistes in the 14th arrondissement took over Z’indems: fortunately, the zinc bar and floral tiles aren’t going anywhere: they’re listed. We hope the great mix of customers won’t change much either.
