25 years after its first turn at the Opéra de Lyon, the Théâtre de Chaillot presents one of Angelin Preljocaj’s first (and undoubtedly most beautiful) ballets: the sublime ‘Romeo and Juliette’. With set design by Enki Bilal, costumes by Fred Sathal and media artist Goran Vejvoda on sound, this sublime Preljocaj ballet features twenty-four dancers in an Eastern bloc-inspired setting. Shakespeare’s original plot themes of rival families and star-crossed lovers are intertwined with a new, intense social class conflict between the rich Capulets and the poor Montagues - a creative decision which manages to enhance the ballet without clouding its romantic soul. Not to be missed!
