At a time when indie rock has been increasingly diluted by careerism and conformity, the flighty iconoclasm of Giant Sand leader Howe Gelb is a precious commodity indeed. Since the mid-’80s, the singer-guitarist has maintained a deceptively casual-sounding stream-of-consciousness sensibility that’s carried him through over 20 albums of raucous guitar squalls and gently twisted Americana. Catch the legend in action in Paris as part of the annual Winter Camp festival – there’s also impressive support from Junius Meyvant and Pain Noir.
