Downtown New York is home to an endangered species of jazzmen. Holed up in Greenwich Village venues such as The Stone, with John Zorn as their ringleader, these artists draw on music, poetry and literature to produce that something with true crossover appeal. Roy Nathanson is a fine exponent of this dying art: poet, singer, saxophonist and frontman of the group Sotto Voce, he mixes beatboxing, lyrical acrobatics and a dash of humour to winning effect. He'll be presenting his new album 'Complicated Day' at the MC93 Bobigny on April 11, with the briliant Cassandra Wilson on supporting duties.
