Detroit trio Slum Village was the launchpad for hip hop maverick J Dilla, who left the crew in 2002 to be replaced by Elzhi and subsequently Illa J, Dilla's brother. Dilla passed away in 2006, and MC Baatin died in 2009; Slum Village now comprises Elzhi, Illa J and original member T3. (Got all that? There's going to be a quiz.) Tonight the crew supports its excellent new EP 'Vintage', resounding proof that it has survived the upheavals and continues to produce some of the sharpest hip hop around.
