Romain is a rare thing in today’s world of celebrity restaurants and international chains. Not to be confused with the Bistro Romain group of restaurants, it’s a lovely little family-owned and run Italian where you can eat great homemade food for around 25 euros. Guy Burkli’s cooking is as pleasurable as wife, Annick’s, welcome, and as expert as their handsome son’s wine choices. Palpably at home together, in Romain they’ve created a smart, bright, very comfortable space covered in framed art. Most people’s attention, however, is on the superb seasonal food. In winter, black truffles, and white truffles from Alba make guest appearances on the menu.
