This is your last chance to get up close and personal with the beasts at the “Bêtes Off” exhibition, held in the vaulted guardroom of Paris’ Conciergerie - the turreted prison where hundreds of aristocrats were jailed before being carted off to the guillotine during the Revolution. Low lighting leads to you into a labyrinth of sculpture, video installations, drawings and paintings – all of which attempt to illustrate the way that animals (real or imaginary) stimulate human imagination.
Set into themed routes – the ‘alley of chimeras’, the ‘lake path’ and the ‘route to the end of the earth’ – you come across a whole host of weird and wonderful creations. There are unicorns, donkey masks, wooden reindeer, giant pigeons and flying horses without eyes – an evocative gallery of contemporary artworks that inevitably make you think about the major environmental challenges we will all have to face over the next few years.
Until March 11th 2012, so hurry...
