Usually the nerve centre for the capital’s traffic, in summer the Seine’s riverbanks turn green and Paris Plages takes over 800 metres’ worth of prime concrete – the whole length of the right bank from Pont-Neuf in the 1st up to the Sully Hôtel de Ville in the 4th. On the menu: deckchairs, parasols, water sprayers and a Club Med-worthy raft of activities organised during the day: ballroom dancing, tai chi, table football, pétanque and, of course, pop-up refreshment bars a-go-go.
