International Busking Festival says
Street performance or busking is the act of performing in public places.

In 2005, former mayor of Phoenix, Phil Gordon, made steps towards protecting busking artists, who was impressed with the street performers he saw during a visit to Santa Monica, California. "A community isn't a community without artists and performers," Gordon said during a ceremony kicking off a program protecting Adams Street for performance artists.

This is a FREE festival on 5th Street, encouraging busking artists to congregate for an evening of street performance.

Many artists use the street to learn and shape their art and to earn a living. Although some will go into vaudeville, television, or YouTube fame... many will stay on the street and explore the depths of intimate expression and human face-to-face interaction. While many cities are too cold to make busking in the open air safe, Phoenix is the perfect place for artists and people to interact with one another in December.

So, put on something warm, stroll 5th St with a few dollar bills, and pay someone for a performance so close, you could see it with your own eyes.
