Avanti West Coast is selling tickets from London to Scotland for just £30

For less than the price of a night out in Soho, you will soon be able to make the 400-mile journey from London to Scotland with Avanti West Coast. The rail company, which operates trains on the West Coast Main Line, has announced that its ‘low-cost Superfare’ will be extended to journeys from Euston to Glasgow, which means the trip could now cost you just £30. Before you get too excited about the prospect of a weekend gallivanting across the Scottish Highlands, there is one catch. The exact departure time of the tickets isn’t revealed to passengers until 24 hours before the train is due to leave the station. Passengers are only able to select whether they want a morning (7am to 11.59am), afternoon (12pm to 4.59pm) or evening (5pm to 11pm) ticket. Avanti West Coast then allocates passengers to free seats and customers are sent an email with their train time and reservation details. On top of this, tickets have to be booked between one to three weeks in advance.  You can also only book one-way tickets, which means you run the risk of the ‘Superfare’ not being available on the date you wish to travel back. Child and other discounts won’t apply. You also cannot use your railcard. The ‘Superfare’ tickets to Scotland for weekday travel dates from 24 April are available to buy now, and Superfare tickets for weekend travel dates from June 4 will be available to book from May 20. Avanti has already launched similar deals on trips between London and Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingha

You’ll soon be able to take a 15-minute flight from Kent to France

Imagine a world where you can swap Britain’s grey skies and fish fingers for sipping Merlot in the scenic French resort of Le Touquet, all in just 15 minutes. Sounds nice, huh? Well, commercial flights will soon resume at a long-disused airport in Kent, so your dreams are about to become a reality.  London Ashford Airport, also known as Lydd, hasn’t launched any commercial flights since 2018, despite once being busier than London Gatwick. However, this is about to change, with the recent announcement by Air Alderney that it will now be flying to several destinations, including the French seaside town of Le Touquet. It will become one of the quickest ways to travel between France and the UK, as the journey between Le Touquet and Lydd will only take 15 minutes.  The return of commercial flights is expected to provide a boost for the area, which was once serviced by a bustling airport. Lydd first opened in 1954 and was the first airport to be built in the UK after WWII. At its peak, it was one of the busiest airports in the UK, with more than 220,000 passengers travelling through it each year – 37,000 more than Gatwick at the time. Now there are controversial plans to expand both the airport and its runway, which is one of the shortest on the British mainland. The airport’s expansion would involve the creation of new terminal building, capable of handling up to 500,000 passengers a year.  The Lydd Airport Action Group has strongly opposed these measures on the grounds of its imp

The latest Marvels trailer has been released but all Twitter can talk about is Park Seo Joon

Marvel has just revealed its latest MCU cast member in the new ‘Marvels’ trailer and the internet is losing its collective mind. The movie is set to be released on 10 November 2023 and will see Captain Marvel (Brie Larsson) return to the big screen, as she battles against an assortment of evil aliens with a female superhero dream team (starring Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris.)  Star of popular K-drama ‘Itaewon Class’ (the story of an ex-con who starts his own business,) Park Seo-Joon will be starring alongside them in a yet-to-be confirmed role. A likely theory according to Screen Rant is that he will be playing the movie’s heroic sword-wielding Prince Yan. Fans of the South Korean actor are so used to swooning over him as a handsome restaurant owner that they are finding the crossover a little hard to wrap their heads around.  “IS THIS REAL OMGG OR IS IT JUST AN EDIT!??” one confounded Twitter user posted. Others are claiming that they are now planning to see the movie purely because of Seo-Joon.  If you’re not a massive K-drama stan (‘Squid Game’, hello!), you might know Park Seo Joon from the 2019 Academy award-nominated thriller ‘Parasite’, where he played the charming best friend of the scam artist protagonist.  Let’s have a look at some of Twitter’s most dramatic reactions:    On our way to the movie theaters for Park Seo Joon as Prince Yan. pic.twitter.com/3UnSNli8wy — 风信子 Jared (@whatsupjared_) April 11, 2023 WHAT IS THIS REAL OMGG OR IS IT JUST A EDIT!??

Shut up! The high school from ‘The Princess Diaries’ is up for sale

If you didn't dream of one day discovering that you're the heir to the throne of a small European country, were you even born in the 90s? This particular fantasy was largely encouraged by the 2001 Disney film,’ ‘The Princess Diaries’. The romcom saw a baby-faced Anne Hathaway playing Mia Thermopolis, an awkward American teenager who finds out she’s princess to the fictional kingdom of Genovia. Long story short, she’s introduced to conditioner, learns to curtsy and cut ribbons and almost kills off the queen, aka Julie Andrews, while attempting to drive stick across San Francisco. Now, 20 years on from Andrews’ iconic one-liner, ‘Goodbye, trolley people’ you can buy the mansion which doubled as Grove High School, if you’ve got $8.9 million to spare, that is. The chataeu’s grand exterior is visible in several iconic scenes from the movie, including when Mia pulls up to school on her scooter, and later, in her limo. It’s also the backdrop to the satisfying moment when Mia smushes an ice cream cone onto the head of mean girl Lana Thomas ( Mandy Moore.)  First built in 1923 by celebrated architect August Headman, 2601 Lyon street is three-stories tall and spans more than 4,500 square feet, with a distinctive neoclassical Mediterranean design. In 2009 the palatial property was snapped up by the ex-CEO of Just Desserts -  and dad of the century - Michael Mendes as his seven-year-old daughter was a massive fan of the movie. Since then it has undergone several renovations and now featu

Stills from ‘The Little Mermaid’ have dropped and the internet doesn’t want to be part of that world

Stills from Disney’s live action remake of The Little Mermaid have just dropped via EW and the internet’s reaction has been… mixed. While Twitter is loving seeing Halle Bailey don Ariel’s tail, they can’t help but think the lighting looks a little, well, washed out.  It looks similar to the grungy tones of other recent Disney live action remakes like Mulan and The Jungle Book. But, with the world looking like it might end soon – climate emergency, World War III, Elon Musk pushing the wrong button – most of us are looking more for the high camp, hot pink fabulousness of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. ‘The color palette is so drab. Is this Zack Snyder’s Little Mermaid?’ one Twitter user complained. Others joked that it looked like a missing scene from Twilight.   Some Photoshop amateurs have even reposted their own versions of the images. With the brightness turned up, obvs. Oof. Here’s a look at what everyone’s been saying: The color palette is so drab. A tick-borne virus has arrived in the UK – here are the symptoms to look out for

As if we didn’t have enough deadly diseases to worry about, a potentially fatal virus carried by ticks has now been confirmed by health officials to be present in the UK.  Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) was first identified in the UK after a 50-year-old man was bitten while mountain biking in Yorkshire. Officials said the virus has also been detected in Hampshire, Dorset and Norfolk, with another possible case in the Loch Earn area of Scotland.  TBEV is commonly found in many other countries around the world. While infections may be asymptomatic, the disease can also lead to anything from a mild flu to severe infections of the central nervous system such as meningitis or encephalitis.  Encephalitis is a potentially life-threatening condition in which the brain becomes swollen. It requires immediate hospital treatment, with very young and very old people being most at risk.  While officials said the risk of infection to the general public was ‘very low’, they recommended that people take precautions when visiting areas with long grass, such as woodlands and parks. These measures include covering ankles and legs to avoid tick bites, as well as using insect repellent and regularly checking clothes for ticks.   Members of the public who experience illness after a tick bite have been told to seek GP advice. Early symptoms of encephalitis infection from a tick bite can include: • A high temperature• A headache• Feeling or being sick• Aching muscles or joints
