Stills from Disney’s live action remake of The Little Mermaid have just dropped via EW and the internet’s reaction has been… mixed. While Twitter is loving seeing Halle Bailey don Ariel’s tail, they can’t help but think the lighting looks a little, well, washed out. 

It looks similar to the grungy tones of other recent Disney live action remakes like Mulan and The Jungle Book. But, with the world looking like it might end soon – climate emergency, World War III, Elon Musk pushing the wrong button – most of us are looking more for the high camp, hot pink fabulousness of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

‘The color palette is so drab. Is this Zack Snyder’s Little Mermaid?’ one Twitter user complained. Others joked that it looked like a missing scene from Twilight.  

Some Photoshop amateurs have even reposted their own versions of the images. With the brightness turned up, obvs.
