A Night At The Savoy!

Time Out says

This Thursday, March 12th, will mark the 89th birthday of the legendary Savoy Ballroom. To celebrate we'll be doing two things on Friday, March 13th. From 9 - 11pm we'll be mixing in a few extra songs from bands that played at the Savoy. Then from 11pm - midnight we'll dedicated the entire hour to those bands. You can expect to hear music from the greats such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman as well as lesser known but still highly influential bands like Chick Webb, Fletcher Henderson, and many more. You're going to be surprised by how many you've already heard and love dancing to! The Savoy Ballroom was the home to all of legendary Harlem Lindy Hoppers. Located on Lenox Ave the 10,000 square foot ballroom could hold 4000 people and had two band stands. The music never stopped during a dance. When one band would take a break a second band would take the stage and keep playing! On it's opening night the Savoy was so popular that the New York Age said that they had to turn away 2000 people. It's time to celebrate our history. Join us for all the fun!
