Sacramento State’s The University Union UNIQUE Programs and Women’s Resource Center are pleased to announce a hard-hitting roller derby bout featuring Sac City Rollers on Thursday, March 12, 2015 starting 7:30 pm in The University Union Ballroom. FREE! The Sac City Rollers is Sacramento’s first all-women’s flat track roller derby team, established in 2006 and is made up of more than 100 active skaters dedicated to the sport of roller derby. In 2012, they proudly joined the Women’s Flat Track Derby Assocation (WFTDA) and has grown to three competing teams- the Capitol Punishers, the Folsom Prison Bruisers and a junior derby league for girls 10- 17 years old, the Jailhouse Brats. Operating as a non-profit, self-governed organization, the Sac City Rollers strive to promote roller derby, but also serve the community by providing unparalleled competition and entertainment. In addition to community outreach, Sac City Rollers members volunteer their time and raise money for local and national charities. Some charities include: Sacramento Children’s Home, the Sacramento Food Bank and the Saint Baldrick’s Foundation. Their mission statement: “We acknowledge the support that we receive from our surrounding communities and strive to reciprocate that support by being involve in local charities through donations and volunteer work. Sac City Rollers is an enthusiastic supporter of roller derby leagues locally, nationally and internationally.” Competing in this year’s event at Sacramento State will be members from the Capitol Punishers and the Folsom Prison Bruisers.
