Artspace1616 says
March in artspace1616 will feature works by Bill Shelley, David Mayhew, Jan Schnurr, Melisa Braden and Inguna Skuja.
Santa Rosa artist Bill Shelley takes a close look at monotonous architecture that we encounter daily. Shelley uses this rather mundane scape to transform it into engaging and elegant collages defined by minimalistic quality.
David Mayhew known for his whimsical narrative pieces, shows new body of work that examines possibilities of abstraction. In an intense dialog between form and color, work implies sense of impermanence. Mayhew lives and works in Sacramento.
In her artistic quest Jan Schnurr is interested in “the notion of fragility”. Her most recent work explores” the use of patterns, tools, found objects, bits or scraps of discarded items as forms. They are layered to produce the illusion of space and movement.” Graduate of Sacramento State University, Schnurr works and lives in Napa.
Skuja Braden is synonym for international duo Melisa Braden from California and Inguna Skuja from Latvia. Their works combine literally, decorative and political elements while utilizing porcelain, material that has historically been connected with absolute refinement.
