Framing & Messaging Issues are the heart of effective issue-organizing work. In the simplest terms, framing & messaging your issue can determine the outcome of the campaign. Frames are the lenses through which people view & receive information. The way issues are packaged by means of carefully designed words & phrases, & selection of symbolic communicators, affect how the public thinks about issues. Framing influences the perception & interpretations of media consumers, the public & politicians alike.
The wrong frame can make it hard for the public to see the policy solutions you support. Successful local policy advocacy depends on how well advocates can understand how local issues are currently framed by policymakers, the media & by your constituency. With this understanding, you can affect these frames & in turn affect the public discourse about local issues.
