She: Images Of The Goddess Closing Reception says
Ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning.
When Barbara Range, the Gallery Director of Brickhouse Art Gallery found out I was also a poet she suggested a “Poetry Night” May 14th 6:30-8pm at the gallery with ekphrasis poetry written based on my art work.
The show consists of over 20 pieces of art work including mixed media, digital collage, charcoals and water colors of Goddess images.
The idea is to write a poem based on one of my visual art works-ekphrasis poetry. I will publish all the poetry generated from the event on my blog (there is a link to my blog from the Sacramento Poetry Center’s website.) Also you are invited to read an additional poem the same night that is the poet’s choice.
This will be an informal reading in the round surrounded by the energy of the Goddess! I hope to have male energy as well. Feel free to include sound with your poem if you are a musician. Let’s have some fun.
