Oregon microbrewery Rogue Ale's bold land grab is evidenced by this ale house, devoted to its staggering array of brews. The standard selection of ambers and lagers is supplemented by such gems as chilli-pepper-tinged Chipotle Ale, Smoke Ale (with strong flavours of smokehouse almonds), Coffee Stout and Iron Chef Morimoto's Black Obi Soba Ale.

Skip the Voodoo Doughnuts beer and you'll have a fine time drinking at the San Francisco outpost of this Portland brewery. Situated at the top of a hill downtown, the Rogue Public House is difficult to get to, but well-worth the trip. Sit at the bar or take a seat in the small patio, where you can enjoy a variety of beer (the pales ales are hard to beat) and a limited menu of pub grub. Oh, and please don't waste your money on the doughnut beer—it's gross.
