14 reasons we really, really love San Francisco moms

Mother's Day is fast approaching. While we scramble to toss some last minute scented candles into a previously-used gift bag and score one of the classier bouquets from Safeway, now is a great time to remember those oh so special (and rare!) moms that raised kids in San Francisco. City moms, this one's for you:

1. They managed to give birth within the city and county of San Francisco, giving us native-based bragging rights that only we will really care about—but God, do we care about them.

2. They managed to sign a real estate contract before any San Francisco housing bubble. Some moms bought a whole house for $50 grand, other locked down rent control at $300 a month. We love them all.

3. San Francisco moms can push a double stroller and lug a baby Bjorn through even the most arduous of Market Street protest marches.

4. Many San Francisco moms were hard-working career moms, breaking glass ceilings and paving the way for us to telecommute while avoiding relationship commitments.

5. Before there were Lululemon brunch-bound Marina moms, our old-school mamas bundled us up for foggy mornings of kite flying on the Marina Green

6. San Francisco moms always had great wine for us to steal and sneak into high school parties. Pee-not No-ire anyone?

7. You know why we always remember to bring an extra layer of clothing, even on a scorcher? Mom.

8. San Francisco moms raised kids before there was a Target in San Francisco, much less before Instacart delivered Target. Where did they buy toilet paper? We'll never know.

9. Mom may or may not have been on the receiving end of some monkey poop at the old-school San Francisco Zoo. Remember Monkey Island? Yeah, so does mom.

10. When mom dropped us off at the movies, she just circled the block for 90 minutes because there was never anywhere to park.

11. We used to be jealous of our suburban friends and their family minivans and grassy backyards covered in sun-bleached toys—but in retrospect, our concrete slab of play-space and Muni pass was hella tight.

12. Before there was pilates class and the Barre Method, San Francisco moms rocked tight tushes thanks to the surprisingly challenging paddleboats at Stow Lake.

13. Thanks to our city mom, we get to enjoy the mass exodus during the holidays when everyone else flies home and we're already there.

14. San Francisco moms chose to raise us in the most beautiful city in the world, full of culture and color, diversity and drama. We're better, weirder, and more open-minded because of it. Thank you SF moms!
