6 art exhibits not to miss in June

With so many things to do in San Francisco, it's easy to miss the many fantastic art exhibits and shows that pass through smaller galleries, as opposed to big museum shows. While it's nearly impossible for even the most ardent art lover to see it all, we've once again curated a collection of must see exhibits currently (or soon to be) gracing the walls of San Francisco's finest art spaces. Plan accordingly.

Patricia Piccinini, Hosfelt Gallery

Famous for working with everything from fiberglass to human hair, artist Patricia Piccinini's work is disarming and troubling. If you think you can handle her provocative point of view, join us in checking out Piccinini's first West Coast solo show. Through July 1, Hosfelt Gallery, 260 Utah Street, SF

"The Hour of Land," EUQINOMprojects

Nature-lovers, take note. "The Hour of Land" is an exciting group exhibition of photographs from Terry Tempest Williams newest book The Hour of Land: A Personal Topography of America’s National Parks. The book—and exhibit—are a multi-photographer collection honoring this year's 100th birthday of the National Park Service. Through July 9, EUQINOMprojects, 1599 Tennessee Street, SF

Tribute to David Bowie: A Group Show, Smash Gallery

The exhibit's title really says it all. Eleven artists present works inspired and in honor of the late, great rock legend David Bowie. A collective homage to Bowie's ability to make "weird" cool, every unique piece in the exhibit comes with its own story of how each artist was inspired by Ziggy Stardust himself. June 4 through July 2, Smash Gallery, 210 Golden Gate Avenue, SF

"Paul Madonna: Close Enough for Angels," The Dryansky Gallery

If the name sounds familiar, it might be because the San Francisco artist's "All Over Coffee" illustration series ran weekly in the San Francisco Chronicle. Local Paul Madonna is now back from a trip to East Asia with a new aesthetic, new book, and new exhibit. "Close Enough for Angels"  features framed originals from his new book. Through July 14, The Dryansky Gallery, 2120 Union Street, SF

"I Look for Clues in Your Dreams," Berkeley Art Center

Six Bay Area artists come together in this mesmerizing exhibit exploring the spirit of the American West. Through installations, painting, sculpture and mixed media, the artists contemplate the mythical and physical phenomena of Northern California. Through July 17, Berkeley Art Center, 1275 Walnut Street, Berkeley

"3650/????," Chinese Culture Center

In this haunting exhibit, San Francisco-based photojournalist David Huang tells the story of a Chinatown single resident occupancy room resident and his quest to live the American Dream. For most of us, Huang's exhibit is a rare look inside Chinatown's cramped SROs and the people who carve out a life within them. Through July 24, 41 Ross Gallery, Chinese Cultuel Center, 41 Ross Alley, SF
