You might think that the last thing San Francisco needs is another bar. But when it comes to a spot to fill the Sutter Street opening left by Shortie Goldstein's, a bar is exactly what's needed—a Meatball Bar!

The Meatball Bar concept is pretty direct. Meatballs come in an array of flavors, from the classic marinara-coated Italian meatball to a Thai-inspired chicken ball with peanut sauce. The menu includes fish meatballs, vegetarian meatballs, and even vegan balls. Meatball selections can be ordered on their own or atop sides such as kale, broccolini, or mashed potatoes.

Meatball menu items cost around $8 while sides clock in around $4. Kombucha on tap, beer and wine are also available in this 25 to 30-seat space. It's a bar that serves meatballs, folks. What's not to like?

“Everyone loves meatballs,” co-owner Angelo Sannino told Hoodline last March. “We thought, ‘Why not. Let’s try to create a restaurant around them.’”

Sannino and co-owner Gianni Chiloiro are the brains behind the two Doppio Zero pizza spots in Silicon Valley. And they're pretty sure they're the first guys to come up with the all-meatball concept—at least on the West Coast. According to Eater, Meatball Shop in New York City is a "sensation."

San Francisco's Meatball Bar launched a soft opening last week. It's now open Monday through Friday from 10:30am to 6:30pm and is located at 126 Sutter Street (between Lick and Trinity Places.)
