There's so much more to flour + water than just, well, flour and water. The Mission District hot spot has been serving spectacular yet casual Italian food to neighborhood locals, top-knotted hipsters and serious celebrities for exactly seven years. To celebrate this milestone, Chef Thomas McNaughton and his team have created the "favorites of flour + water" pasta tasting menu, available all week long.

The $70 tasting menu price-tag might seem a bit much just for (here we go again) flour and water.  But McNaughton's first restaurant took San Francisco by storm when his pizzas and pastas hit the plate seven years ago—and flour + water's classic creations have stood the test of culinary time, an impressive feat in a city that spits out new restaurants faster than a sommelier on a barrel tasting. (Speaking of which, the tasting menu comes with an optional $50 wine pairing.) On the menu are dishes such as squid ink corzetti with pork sausage and braised squid, tortellini en brodo and fennel frond pappardelle with rabbit ragout and lemon basil.

In a fun twist, McNaughton and his team are collaborating with flour + water employees of past and present to create a special late night dish for each evening of the week. Made available every night at 9:30pm, the surprise menu item will be revealed daily on Instagram at noon, giving us just enough time to drool our way to a late two-top.

The flour + water favorites tasting menu and weekly late-night surprise will be available May 9-14. A portion of the proceeds will benefit John O'Connell High School, just down the street.
