Andria Lo’s photos make us think we’re doing Instagram wrong. Lo is living the San Francisco dream, freelancing full time as a portrait, product and wedding photographer, while generously gifting us her work on social media. Originally raised in Texas and Alaska, Lo spent 10 years living in San Francisco’s Lower Haight before making the inevitable move to Berkeley last year. She describes her work as a “colorful, curious take on the world”—an understatement of her talent, if you ask us. Every single one of her posts belongs in a gallery.

You don’t know it, but you’ve probably seen Lo’s fruit photos on the back of Muni buses. (Her client list includes the CUESA Ferry Plaza’s Farmer’s Market.) “I’m lucky to be based in the Bay Area,” Lo says, regarding her professional work. “There’s great architecture and access to so much nature within a couple of hours, so there is a lot of variety in locations. I love our epic coastline and anything in the forest.”

When it comes to inspiration for her social media shots, Lo makes it sound easy. “I enjoy finding design in mundane places. I’ve noticed a lot of what I post on Instagram were snaps while out running errands.” So, does she have any tips for those of us hoping to spice up our feeds? “If you’re in a photo rut, try walking around at the ‘magic hour’ before sunset. You’ll often find light doing unexpected things.”
