Dan Hogman describes himself as a “maniac architectural photographer,” which is pretty accurate if one can be maniacal about the beauty of San Francisco. The Romanian-born architect enjoys a following of over 50,000 on Instagram, and can now count us among his biggest fans. Hogman’s mostly black-and-white photos present an almost futuristic view of the city, while his sketches of classical Victorian designs pay homage to the city’s rich architectural history. All of which is to say, Dan Hogman helps us see San Francisco in a way we hadn’t considered before.

Hogman includes short but mesmerizing Instagram videos of his sketch process, like this one of the Wells Fargo Building. As for photos, the Transylvanian carries a small camera with him everywhere, though few of his photos are spontaneous. “The inspiration does strike sometimes,” he explains. “It’s better to plan ahead, locate the subject, plan a good time to be there and get it done right.”

An Inner Richmond resident, Hogman claims he would head back to Europe if he didn’t love the city so much. “I am living in the US mostly for San Francisco. Food, art and culture—that is hard to find anywhere else.”
