We always knew something amazing would eventually fill the former Roosevelt Tamale Parlor on 24th Street and that day has finally arrived—at least for now. Chefs David Nayfield and Angela Pinkerton have a hotly anticipated new restaurant in the works. Che Fico on Divisadero is already garnering loads of buzz and it's not even open yet. So while they wait for their grand reveal, Nayfield and Pinkerton created Mission D&A, a 6-month pop-up dinner in the former tamale parlor. The kicker? Every month, the pop-up completely reinvents their menu and theme. The concept has been a sold-out show-stopper from day one.

Mission D&A began in July with "Mama Galina," a multi-course dinner of Belarusian food served family style. August brought patrons of Mission D&A to the charms of a Paris bistro with "Bistronomy." And for their third installment, Nayfield and Pinkerton are serving up "Family Meal."

A nod to the collective dinner restaurant workers are served before or after service, "Family Meal" hits very close to home for the hardworking chefs. "It’s very communal and without pretense; it’s the proletarian version of high dining," Nayfield explained to EaterSF. "Family meal was our thirty minute break where we all took time to sit and break bread together as a whole, dining room and kitchen together."

Nayfield is a Bay Area native. In fact, his first job was stocking veggies at Paul's Produce in Alameda. He met Pinkerton when they were both working in New York at the famed restaurant Eleven Madison Park where according to their website, the two didn't speak for three months. These days, the former foes are thrilled to be serving far more casual fare in San Francisco. "Mission D&A is loud and lively," their website warns. "We encourage you to relax, get in the spirit and have fun!"

Diners take note: the colorful art on the walls of Mission D&A come from Alan Miknis and Eric Otto, both San Francisco artists. Their art is on loan from local gallery Satellite of. Love.

Behold the $80 "Family Meal" menu, which includes drinks, will be available from September 8 through October 8, and is subject to change:

Cheddar Biscuits with strawberry d'espelette jam
