Off the Grid's Presidio Twilight returns Thursday night

In the realm of gorgeous, affordable and seasonal San Francisco food events, Presidio Twilight ranks near the top. Lantern-lit cabanas, fire pits, international food trucks, live music and sunset activities take over the Presidio's iconic Main Parade Ground on Thursday nights through September 21.

While the event officially runs from 5pm to 9pm, we recommend arriving early to stake out a prime picnicking spot. Cabanas and fire pits are first come, first served. Leashed dogs are welcome (although not around the fire pits) and the whole evening is very kid-friendly. Over 16 food trucks will be on hand, as well as booze (of course). The brand new, ultra-modern Presidio Visitor's Center is open until 5pm and sells picnicking supplies like bottle openers, rain jackets and blankets. And once a month, astronomers will be on hand for star-gazing.

Chairman Bao, Boneyard BBQ, and Me So Hungry Too burgers and sliders are all on the vendors list for this week's Twilight. Expect a rotating (but always delicious) round-up of food purveyors, just like any other Off the Grid eating event. Plus, you can let your bare feet sink into that pristine grassy field for hula hooping, bean bag toss games, and a giant Jenga.

The Presidio is a United States National Park and thus attendees are asked to take home everything they bring to Presidio Twilight. Obviously, don't trash the place. This sweet community picnic is a genuinely special summertime tradition. We'll see you there—plastic wine cup in hand, Golden Gate in the distance.
