If you've ever heard of San Luis Obispo's Madonna Inn, you might be familiar with the quirky hotel's history and 110 themed rooms, including Caveman, Matterhorn, Pioneer America and Oriental Fantasy. In keeping with their ever-evolving unique aesthetic, the Madonna Inn will soon open their doors to 101 fiberglass cow statues.

Opened by the Madonna family in 1958 (yep, their last name is really Madonna), the Inn's uniquely-themed rooms hoped to entice business. The funky concept worked, and the now historic hotel has evolved to include a popular restaurant, spa and shopping options aplenty. Fiberglass cows are merely the latest addition.

The cows come to San Luis Obispo courtesy of CowParade, a touring art show. The 120-pound fiberglass cows are painted by local artists and displayed around town. Events around the cow art raise money that's then directed towards local charities. "Over 75 cities and 200 million people worldwide have participated in CowParade, one of the most successful art endeavors ever," claims the CowParade website. "Now it’s San Luis Obispo County’s turn."

Instead of letting the cows roam all over the county, the Madonna Inn felt like the perfect fit for showcasing all 101 statues in one place.

CowParade explains, "Taking place September 2016 through May 2017, the event will give local artists a chance to showcase their talents on a global stage. The region’s agricultural history, growing arts scene and its ecotourism draw make CowParade the perfect conduit for a countywide event that will involve, unite and benefit the whole community."

The cows will be unveiled on September 17th and on display at the Madonna Inn until each one is auctioned off for charity next Spring.
