Green Apple Mayo Sherbet, anyone? That flavor (and several special additions) made the menu of Salt & Straw's first San Francisco ice cream shop. The Portland-based dessert destination will open its much-anticipated Fillmore Street shop this Friday. But for those who can't wait for a scoop of almond brittle with salted ganache, Salt & Straw is hosting a pop-up ice cream shop at the Westfield Centre mall under the dome from 11am to 2pm this Thursday.

Salt & Straw's shop at 2201 Fillmore Street will offer six flavors. Roasted Strawberry Tres Leches and Sightless Coffee & Dandelion Chocolate will only be available in San Francisco. Green Apple Mayo Sherbet and Strawberry Coriander Leaf Sorbet are the shop's temporary seasonal offerings. And Salt & Straw's classic Freckled Woodblock Chocolate and Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache are available at all locations, including S.F.

The brick and mortar shop, which will be open from 11am to 11pm everyday starting on Friday, takes over the space formerly occupied by Evolution Fresh juice bar. "A lot of the bones were here and that was good," Salt & Straw co-owner Kim Malek told the Chronicle. "We didn't have to totally redo the electricity or plumbing or the things that would cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars and take months and months to fix."

Hold on, ice cream cravers—there's more. Salt & Straw plans to open a second location in San Francisco's at Hayes and Laguna Streets this summer. Stay tuned to see if this new San Francisco ice cream emporium makes our list of the city's best
