San Francisco's best pumpkin patches

While you might need to head out of town for Halloween festivities like corn mazes and hay rides, San Francisco still knows how to sell some gorgeous pumpkins. We've combed the city and picked our favorite patches right here within the 7-by-7. Carving that artisanal jack-o-lantern, however, is on you.

Clancy's

1620 7th Avenue, San Francisco

An Urban pumpkin oasis since 1979, Clancy's Pumpkin Patch is a San Francisco classic. With a massive array of carving, baking and decorating pumpkins, Clancy's also features the classic pumpkin patch extras like spooky tree ghosts, a kid-size hay maze and actual hay rides through San Francisco. Like any true city pumpkin patch, Clancy's takes credit cards, but parking can be tight.

Pomeroy Great Highway Pumpkin Patch

207 Skyline Blvd., San Francisco

There are many great reasons to visit the Pomeroy Center year round, but Halloween is a terrific time to support this organization. Pick out pumpkins, fall crafts, sweet treats and more while supporting children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities. The patch is staffed by the Pomeroy Center's clients, who also work to create many of the crafts for sale.

Bay Natives Nursery

10 Cargo Way, San Francisco

Located at Pier 96, this full service nursery gets into the fall spirit with a serious collection of pumpkins and gourds. Bay Natives specializes in native California plant life and is actually a fun field-trip in and of itself, even if you've already got your gourd. Children are encouraged, especially when it comes to playing with the nursery's chickens and goats.

Grandpa Kevin's Pumpkin Patch

266-550 Serramonte Blvd., Daly City

Okay, so technically Grandpa Kevin's is outside of San Francisco proper. But this cute patch is very close to the Serramonte Mall at which we all secretly shop, so a trip here isn't too far out of the way. This is a very kid-friendly pumpkin patch, with bouncy houses and lots of seasonal activities for your little ghosts and goblins.

Whole Foods

Various locations in San Francisco

Hear us out, pumpkin purists. If you're looking for pumpkins without living the city, any grocery store will have a big box of orange offerings. But in our estimation, Whole Foods stores have the best selection, healthiest-looking city pumpkins and a fun collection of decorative gourds. If you're not up for a drive to Half Moon Bay and need a perfect pumpkin in a pinch, skip the corner store and head to a Whole Foods.
