"Beneath the ballroom" sounds like the setting of an unsolved mystery, but it's really the location of San Francisco's newest music venue. Social Hall SF has just opened directly below the classic Regency Ballroom, kicking off a few weeks ago with a show headlined by Neon Indian (swoon). "This room is a venue we've always had," reveals Paul Billings, Vice President at Goldenvoice, the company behind the club. Formerly a space for private events or Regency Ballroom overflow, the 600-capacity venue is now Social Hall, a home for musical acts in its own right.

"We basically renovated the space beneath the ballroom and made it its own space, gave it its own name," Billings says. Social Hall will host a mix of local artists and national touring acts, and includes a gorgeous 40-foot wooden bar. According to Billings, Social Halls' low ceiling and underground atmosphere will lend itself to indie music, DJ performances, stand-up comedy, EDM shows and punk music.

Social Hall hopes to host around 100 shows and private events a year, and we're already getting excited for upcoming performances—view a full calendar of events here.
