Love sea life? Who doesn't! The folks at the Monterey Bay Aquarium understand how we feel and want to help deliver our messages of—well—fandom to the sea creatures that live in their world-class aquarium. Anyone who sends a letter (or postcard) to a creature at the Monterey Bay Aquarium will have that note lovingly read to its intended animal recipient.

For example, one postcard posted to Twitter read, "Dear fish, You are the best fish ever! Some fish are thought to be scary but you are great! - Unsigned."

Someone else sent a haiku that said, "Stingray, I love you - But one killed Steve Irwin and - That makes me quite sad." The MBA has yet to post the stingray's response.

The letters and postcards (and tweets and Facebook messages) are a great way to keep fans of the aquarium in touch with their favorite animals, but could it make any difference to the fish? According to some scientists - the answer is maybe! Whales and dolphins have expressed a proven ability to empathize, while certain fish have recently been scientifically proven to be smarter than we initially thought. Whether or not sea creatures can even hear our letters and postcards through thick glass and tons of water, however, remains to be seen.

Letters to favorite fish, otters, and other sea creatures can be mailed to, Attention: (insert animal of choice), Monterey Bay Aquarium, 886 Cannery Row, Monterey, CA 93940.
