Bay Area bicyclists and pedestrians can now enjoy the gorgeous views from the Bay Bridge eastern span every day of the week.

Starting Tuesday, May 2, the 2.2-mile path will be open to bikers, walkers, strollers, runners, and puppies(!) every day from 6am to 8pm. Starting on May 25, those hours will be extended to 9pm. Previously, the Bay Bridge Trail was only open on weekends.

Path users will also have access to a $2 million vista point rest area on Yerba Buena Island featuring restrooms, water fountains, benches, and a bike rack. Currently, the path does not connect with Treasure Island, but the San Francisco County Transportation Authority is working on that. They hope to have an extension completed by the end of 2019.

While the Bay Bridge Trail does not include the western span of the bridge and will not get you to the shores of San Francisco, it's still a breath-taking new hike and bike route just in time for summer.
