We solved the mystery of San Francisco's Scotland Yard

Cow Hollow's newest watering hole doesn't just serve up an interesting wine list and some serious bar bites. The atmosphere of Scotland Yard, the new bar from the team behind Noir Lounge, brings some Victorian-era intrigue to a night out in San Francisco. Named after London's police headquarters, Scotland Yard's low lighting and red-walled interior makes it the kind of bar that the Benedict Cumberbatch version of Sherlock Holmes might pop into.

Co-owner Brian Cassanego jumped at the chance to open his second restaurant when the space formerly occupied by Bin 38 became available. "The timing was right," said Cassanego. "The space had great bones and a great backyard that we knew we could really make special." Speaking of bones, "Try the luge shot when you order the Bone Marrow," Cassanego suggests.

Executive Chef Jason Raffin has created a San Francisco-meets-London menu that's full of surprises. Our favorites include a kale caesar, a bacon-brined pork chop, a highly Instgram-able cheese plate and the Yard Burger, an ambitious take on the classic that hopes to give San Francisco's famous hamburgers a run for their money.

Born and raised in the City, Cassanego has an innate sense of the neighborhoods of San Francisco. It's why he chose Hayes Valley for Noir Lounge, and why he's excited for Scotland Yard's Scott Street location. "I like to know my customers and establish a great local base. So I choose my neighborhoods based on the people that comprise them," says Cassanego. "My job is super easy when I enjoy my customers."

Scotland Yard is now open at 3232 Scott Street (between Lombard and Chestnut), Mon-Sun 4pm-close.
