Next to the Crocker Galleria mall, this boutique hotel built in 1911 was looking a bit frayed until the Joie de Vivre chain recently snapped it up and poured in $7 million of updates. Now its rooms provide pillow-top bedding with Frette linens, flat-panel TVs and DVD players, and free internet access and office supplies. The endearingly snug lobby, with its elegant art nouveau fireplace and evening wine reception, is the hotel's showcase of charm. A serviceable American restaurant is next door.
