Rooftop Radio: Noise Pop

A rooftop at SFMOMA shifts into a late-evening listening space where Latinx-rooted rhythms and Bay Area club energy spill out across the Sculpture Garden. The night opens with a bass-heavy DJ set from mare.e.fresh, folding cumbia, reggaeton and Afro-Caribbean textures into a fast-moving, genre-blurring warm-up that already feels expansive against the museum skyline. As dusk settles, Y La Bamba take over with a live set that threads Mexican folk traditions through indie rock and experimental production, the songs landing with a tension between intimacy and propulsion. Between performances, the rooftop doesn’t really clear so much as reconfigure, with food stalls, wandering caricature sketches and the city visible in fragments beyond the sculpture silhouettes. Inside, the museum stays open late, so the sound of the rooftop competes with quieter galleries and nearby installations, turning the whole building into a loose, multi-room echo of the same program.
