Designed to be an anchor of the Fillmore Jazz Preservation District, Rasselas suffers from unadventurous programming, yet still manages to draw lively crowds at weekends. The decor - high ceilings, bachelor-pad furniture and a crackling fireplace behind the band - is suggestive of a 1960s playboy den, and combos usually get the weekend crowds of African-American revellers and white yuppies up on to their feet.
