Built to Spill

Built to Spill has the rare advantage of sounding immediately familiar without ever feeling entirely settled. That makes this three-night Chapel run a particularly good excuse to revisit the band, especially with PLAYDEAD opening. Doug Martsch's longtime project has always left room for songs to wander, stretch and take unexpected turns, and the Chapel's intimate scale suits that looseness better than a larger room would. The Tuesday show is the last of three consecutive nights, which also gives this booking a slightly different appeal from the usual one-off stop on a tour. Come for the familiar favorites if that's what gets you through the door, but leave some attention for the deeper cuts and guitar detours. Doors are at 7pm, with the show starting at 8pm.
