Gage and Gold packs four vocalists, piano, bass and drums into a 75 minute set at Mr. Tipple's, with Jackie Gage, Shamilah Ivory, Scott Keller and Meredith McHenry sharing the mic. That lineup is the reason to pay attention: rather than centering the evening on a single singer, the group puts four distinct voices in conversation, backed by a compact jazz rhythm section. The short run time also makes this an easy midweek outing, especially if you want live music without turning Wednesday night into a whole production. At $15 to $20, it is a relatively low-stakes way to spend an hour and a quarter in one of the city's more dependable rooms for intimate jazz.
