Sacramento-based taiko ensemble Iwa Daiko brings the thunder of traditional Japanese drumming to Yerba Buena Gardens with a lunchtime performance that is as much about storytelling as it is about rhythm. The group's name translates to "Collective Purpose," reflecting its mission to honor Japanese cultural traditions while embracing new voices and perspectives. Many of its members are descendants of Japanese Americans who were incarcerated during World War II, adding another layer of history and meaning to the performance. Presented in partnership with the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, the free concert blends precision, power, and cultural heritage in one of the city's most inviting outdoor settings.
