This week in the Bay Area, you can build a prize-worthy sand castle, watch drag queens compete in a culinary battle, and much more.

Monday: Cook with drag queens

Silicon Valley Pride Week kicks off with a saucy drag queen cooking showdown. See Alina Maletti Galore and WooWoo Monroe trade in their sequins for spatulas as they whisk and flip their own fabulous creations in a Top Chef-like competition.

Monday: Make a stop-motion film

Learn how to plan, script, and film your own short movie on an iPad (provided by the Millbrae Public Library). Bring your own props or use the ones available during the class. Online registration is closed, but contact the library (650-697-7607) to snag any last minute openings.

Tuesday: Watch Pretty Woman

Find a seat at Top of the Mark this Tuesday to catch the latest flick in their summer movie screenings, Pretty Woman. The iconic lounge will feature complimentary tastings of a wine or spirit prior to the film.

Tuesday: Twirl on the pole

All shapes, sizes and genders are welcome at this beginner's pole dancing class. The body-positive session will focus on introductory techniques that will have you sweating in no time. 

Wednesday: Make spring rolls (and a new friend)

Co-working and co-living space Roam is hosting a “Spring Roll Social” to introduce their new branch at 1000 Fulton Street a.k.a. the Archbishop Mansion in Alamo Square

 

Thursday: Fall in love with lasers

Exploratorium scientist Ron Hipschman will host this colorful and interactive installation. Attendees will learn how lasers are used in everything from DVD players to eye surgery to fusion energy research.

Friday: Make like a mummy

Walk like an Egyptian through the 29th annual King Tut Festival. The festival grounds include Egyptian-inspired handmade foods, music, and one-of-a-kind items imported from the shops around the Great Pyramids. 

Saturday: Plan a trip to a state park

On Saturday, Save the Redwoods League will start taking RSVPs for free day-use and vehicle passes to various state parks. These free passes are good to use on September 8th.

Saturday: Celebrate Chinatown

More than 200 booths will take over eight blocks in Oakland's Chinatown this weekend as part of the  annual Chinatown StreetFest. Shop goods, textiles, and other products while watching traditional Chinese dances and live music. 

Sunday: Build a sand castle

Build your sandy masterpiece at the Point Reyes National Seashore’s annual Sand Sculpture Contest for the chance to win prizes and beachside bragging rights. The event is free for both participants and spectators alike, with food and drink available on site.

Sunday: Wave your rainbow flag

Proud LGBTQ+ members will march during the 43rd annual Silicon Valley Pride Parade this weekend. The parade will run through Market Street in San Jose at 10am. Afterward, enjoy live music, food, and other fabulous happenings.
