Make the most of your week with these fun events. 

Tuesday: Free museums admission

Get reacquainted with the city's cultural touchstones is by taking advantage of the monthly free admission days. This Tuesday, the De Young Museum, the Legion of Honor and the Museum of Craft and Design will be free of charge.  

Tuesday: San Francisco Jazz Festival kickoff 

This annual event kicks off its 36th year with a free outdoor concert at PROXY in Hayes Valley. Just a few blocks from the SFJAZZ Center, the five-hour party includes live performances from Bay Area artists such as Howard Wiley & Extra Nappy and Beso Negro, as well as food trucks and a beer garden. The block party marks the beginning of nearly two weeks of amazing shows from the likes of Ahmad Jamal, Monsieur Periné, Irma Thomas and Sérgio Mendes.

 

Thursday: Castro Art Walk

Kick off your Pride Month celebrations with an art walk through San Francisco’s historic gayborhood, The Castro. Stop by the “Make and Take” booth, hosted by the Museum of Craft and Design, to learn collage and image transferring techniques and create artwork on wood panels. 

Thursday: SF Design Week opening night

SF Design Week kicks off Thursday at Pier 27. Local artists, designers and companies will showcase their works while DJ Cira spins in the background. Admission is $45 and includes full access to all the attractions and installations on site as well as food from Off the Grid. 

Friday: Outdoor vertical dance show on Cadillac Hotel

Flyaway Productions presents asite-specific dance celebrating 100 years of outcast activism in the Tenderloin. The aerial dance takes place on the facade of the Cadillac Hotel above the Tenderloin Museum. 

Saturday: Ghirardelli Square Festival 

Load up on chocolate at the inaugural Ghirardelli Square Festival this weekend. Beach Street will be covered with arts-and-crafts vendors, live entertainment and food and craft brews. Be sure to help artists Romy Aura Maloon create a new public art sculpture, “Re-Calibrate.” 

Sunday: YoGoats

Cap off your week with a bit of flexibility, mindfulness and a crew of goats. Deb Burkman will instruct a beginners-level 30-minute yoga session. Bring your yoga mat and stick around for frolicking time with the goats after class.
