Drunk Theatre

As if performing live theater isn’t daunting enough, these daring improvisers throw some boozing into the mix. This raucous show kicks off with shots for the actors, who then perform without a script. Don’t want to feel left out of the fun? Be sure to get to PianoFight early enough to pull down some of their classic cocktails.

Matt Costa

SoCal songwriter Matt Costa’s heartfelt tunes caught a wave of popularity years back with the release of 2005’s Songs We Sing, drawing comparison to his contemporaries Jack Johnson and The Shins. A little bit older and wiser, Costa is on a west coast tour, reflecting on his early career while exploring the future. Get ready for the release of his first LP in over five years by catching him live at this intimate venue.

38th Annual Black Cuisine Festival

Head to the Bayview for a bounty of soul food and fun in the sun at the 38th Annual Black Cuisine Festival. Vendors will be dishing out all your faves while novice chefs put their best recipes to the test competing for cash prizes. This is the Bayview’s longest running outdoor event, boasting live music, dancing and kids’ activities. Look for the festivities at Carroll Avenue at Third Street.

They Might Be Giants

Whether your day has been good or bad, it's tough to imagine a band that can either amplify your joy or pull you up from the doldrums with more surefire personality than TMBG. And it’s a kick to hear that after over 30 years of spirited dabbling, their appetite for variety remains unsatisfied. Even when dealing with adult themes, the geek-pop band still tickles the brainy adolescent in all of us.

Under the Big Top: Academy Awards Night Gala

One of the city’s biggest, glammest bashes kicks off early Sunday evening, just as the celebs are hitting the red carpet down in L.A. This centerpiece event directly benefits a wide array of worthy HIV/AIDS prevention and care organizations. Boasting a lavish evening of food and drinks, courtesy of Serpentine, Bluestem Brasserie, The Alembic and many more Bay Area hot spots, guests also enjoy ogling each other as the city’s luminaries step out in their flashiest Fashion Police-repellant finery.

Oscars Party at the Knockout

Reliable Mission dive the Knockout is hosting a casual Oscar party for serious drinkers without a gala-level budget. Get there early for the red carpet fashion pre-show and to fill out your Oscar ballot for a chance at great prizes. KJ Omar will keep the party going even during the commercials, with Oscar trivia and more fun surprises.
