Time Out says

Begun in 1928, this Episcopalian cathedral was once a private mansion. It was later taken over by the church and is, by the standards of most cathedrals in the US, an architectural extravaganza, with a façade modelled on Paris's Notre Dame. Its other features include a fine rose window, a magnificent organ and gilded bronze portals made from casts of the Doors of Paradise in Florence's Baptistery. Murals depict the founding of the United Nations and the burning of Grace's predecessor; the AIDS Interfaith Chapel has an altarpiece by Keith Haring. Popular features within the cathedral include two massive labyrinths, based on the 13th-century example at Chartres, that allow visitors to wander in a contemplative manner.

What’s on

AURA

Grace Cathedral’s soaring arches become the backdrop for a striking collision of history and technology as this immersive show washes the landmark’s interior with projection-mapped visuals and custom lighting. Original music reverberates through the nave, weaving together the building’s storied past with a contemporary pulse. The experience unfolds as a series of shifting scenes, each one transforming the cathedral’s vast spaces into something unexpected—at times meditative, at others almost cinematic. The interplay of light, sound, and architecture invites visitors to see familiar stone and stained glass in a new way, blurring the line between sacred tradition and digital spectacle. Rather than simply observing, guests are enveloped in a sensory narrative that feels both intimate and monumental, all within one of San Francisco’s most iconic spaces.
