Gun Club & Monarch Present:

PERMANENT VACATION [Permanent Vacation]
A lot has happened since the disco ball started spinning in Munich discotheques in the 1970s for the first time. Thirty years later, its motor has gained new drive and the ball is spinning faster than ever. Partly responsible for this renaissance is the Munich label: PERMANENT VACATION.

Founded by TOM BIOLY and BENJAMIN FRÖHLICH during Germany’s tropical summer of 2006, PERMANENT VACATION has not only survived in the obscure jungle of modern dance music, but has established itself as a flagship of the DISCO MOVEMENT and its variations such as BALEARIC, COSMIC, KRAUTROCK or PROTOHOUSE, all of which have become extremely popular on all continents.

However, BIOLY und FRÖHLICH don’t consider Disco as mere retro phenomenon (even though there shouldn’t be a lack of authenticity), as they have their home and base in Munich—the city that, along with New York, shaped the early days of Disco. BIOLY and FRÖHLICH rather deem Disco a form of mentality dissolving from all too fixed and earnest paradigms of dance music and the under cooled sound aesthetics of the electronic scene, promising warmth, playfulness and fun again.

What else should partying be about?

If the label wasn’t enough the two also started to produce own tracks under the moniker Permanent Vacation (yes yes we know it’s the same name as the label). So far Bioly and Fröhlich released a remix for their own artist Woolfy ss.Projections, which got a lot of attention from highly acclaimed DJs like Hell, Prins Thomas, Todd Terje, Solomun, the Innervisions Crew (Dixon, AME) etc. and their first EP called “TIC TOC” featuring Kathy Diamond on vocals and the massive club track “ZUCKER HUT” on the flipside. More is soon to come As DJs, Benjamin Fröhlich and Tom Bioly, the heads behind Permanent Vacation, don’t necessarily play one style exclusively. Quite on the contrary, they are known for their extremely open, warm, still driving sets, consisting of psyched out disco, dub-techno, slow-mo house, early electro and leftfield pop. Over the past years, they also earned a reputation by organizing parties and hosting various club nights in Munich, where they have played alongside highly respected artists such as Lindström & Prins Thomas, Chateau Flight, Todd Terje, Maurice Fulton, Joakim, Tim Sweeney, Peter Kruder, James Holden, Superpitcher, Holy Ghost!, Hercules and Love Affair etc.

So watch out for a good time when they come to town!

WOOLFY Live [Permanent Vacation, DFA]
London born, Simon James, crossed the Atlantic as a wee lad bound for Los Angeles. There, in the LA Undergound, is where Woolfy emerged. The influence of house music and dance inspired a dj career that has taken Woolfy from Moscow to Rio, spreading his signature brand of dirty disco for nearly a decade.
In early 2000 Woolfy met Dan Hastie and formed the duo Projections. Legendary house label Guidance Records quickly signed the duo, releasing several singles that caught the attention of Tony Humphries, as well as the ground breaking LP release, Between Here and Now. The album was a success and put Projections on the map.

In 2004 Woolfy was introduced to the New York based DJ and co-owner of Rong Records Dj Spun. This spontaneous meeting produced several singles from Woolfy, "Oh Missy" and the sleazy drugged up disco burner "The Warehouse". In 2007 he connected with the well respected label, Permanent Vacation, and released the LP, The Astral Projections of Starlight, under the moniker Woolfy vs. Projections. These releases blazed thru the disco dance scene and soon created a Woolfy following and reputation that was noted in several respected dance culture magazines.

Other recent ventures have included co-producing with the legendary Dj Harvey , Plant life , Orgone and remixes for Eskimo, Future Classic, Mindless Boogie , and Modular to name a few . In the summer of 2009 the highly anticipated album, "If You Know what’s Good for ya!!" was released on Rong/DFA. Currently Woolfy is working on his second LP for both Permanent Vacation and DFA and is wrapping up the production on the music video "Looking Glass."

EUG [Public Release, Face]
Dj, Label Director and Designer, Eugene or better known as Eug has been heavily involved within both the design and music worlds for well over a decade now. Having started out Dj'ing in the early 90's, he eventually collected his musical efforts under the "Public Release" label / project umbrella in 1999. Through Public Release, he has released over a dozen mix CDs which have sold at key shops such as Colette, I Heart, the Reed Space and aNYthing. This limited CD series has featured the exclusive artwork of renowned artists such as Evan Hecox and Parra, and has led to coverage from magazines such as L'Officiel Homme, Arkitip, Nylon, and others.

In the Fall of 2009, Public Release launched their first 12" record, a series of edits and re-interpretations by Tim Sweeney (DFA / Beats in Space), with picture disc photography by NYC icon David "Shadi" Perez. Volume 2 followed in June of 2010, with Jacques Renault (Runaway/ On The Prowl / Lets Play House) handling edits and production on this highly successful and collectible 4 track EP. The much publicized "food series" discs then followed, with 2 new original tracks produced by parisian Blackjoy for Vol. 3 and SF heroes 40 Thieves handling Vol. 4. Last spring, saw the much anticipated 5th release by NJ legend Mike Simonetti (Italians Do It Better).

The start of 2013 saw a marked step forward with the label now officially being named Public Release Recordings. For the 6th release, L.A. based Brit Woolfy turned in a monster dance rock track "Junior's Throwin' Craze". With remixes from Eric Duncan, Jacques Renault and Being Borings, the 12" and digital releases garnered much support from the likes of Tim Sweeney, Lovefingers, Justin V, etc. In parallel, much loved Public Release collaborator Shadi Perez directed the video for the single, which received Vimeo's Staff Pick and heavy press coverage from The Fader, Paper Magazine, NME, Monster Children etc...

Eug also produces the infamous FACE parties with partners Bootsy, J.Montag and Rishi. They also program FACE for the Brooklyn station Viva-Radio.

RYAN POULSEN [Gun Club]
Ryan Poulsen is a dance-floor veteran. Ryan has been rifling through re cord stacks since the tender age of 17, cutting his teeth in the clubs and underground warehouses of San Diego and Los Angeles in the mid ’90s. This longtime vinyl nerd is one of the few Stateside DJs who can fuse—successfully, that is—a love of techno, house, electro, and old rave with his childhood roots in punk, hard core, R&B, soul, and classic jams.
Ryan has kept some sterling company over the past 12 years, having performed alongside the likes of Ian Brown, Tim Sweeney, Maurice Fulton, Lady Sovereign, Cyprus Hill, Black Eyed Peas, Barry Weaver, Joakim, Kaos, DJ Medhi, Rub N Tug, Peaches, Broker/Dealer, DJ Godfather, Erasure, Egyptian Lover, DJ Hell, Spank Rock, and many more.
