This is worth getting some sand in your shoes: Every October, cute kids, cunning designers and amazing architects team up to transform typically blah Ocean Beach into a magical landscape of mythical creatures and dreamy forts. Now celebrating its 32nd year, the Leap Sandcastle Contest is tackling a challenging new theme, Sand Cinema, all while raising money for its impressive arts education programs, which serve over 7,000 Bay Area students. All in all, not a bad day at the beach.
