This undersung expanse is actually the second largest park in the city. It was created in1927 by John McLaren, San Francisco's first Superintendent of Parks. The site, which borders the residential Excelsior, Crocker-Amazon, Visitation Valley and Portola neighborhoods, nurtures 318 acres of meadows, wetlands and grasslands, including the Yosemite Marsh and Yosemite Creek. The park maintains seven and a half miles of biking and hiking trails, a golf course and an indoor pool (which was renovated in 2008). In summer and fall months, free concerts are hosted every Saturday at the park's Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, a Greek-style outdoor stage.
